사람들을 만나 보면 유난히 신뢰를 받는 사람들이 있습니다. 그런 사람들은 쉽게 만날 수 없습니다. 대부분은 이미 많은 책임을 맡고 있거나, 각자의 자리에서 오랜 시간 신뢰를 쌓아 온 사람들이기 때문일지도 모릅니다.
오늘 문득 스스로에게 질문해 보았습니다.
내가 가장 신뢰하는 존재는 누구인가?
저의 대답은 하나님입니다.
하나님의 전능하심은 굳이 설명할 필요가 없습니다. 그러나 오늘 읽은 신명기의 말씀은 제가 하나님을 신뢰하는 이유를 조금 더 분명하게 알려 주었습니다.
“여호와께서 다만 너희를 사랑하심을 인하여, 또는 너희 열조에게 하신 맹세를 지키려 하심을 인하여 자기의 권능의 손으로 너희를 인도하여 내시되 너희를 그 종 되었던 집에서 애굽 왕 바로의 손에서 속량하셨나니.” (신명기 7:8)
이 말씀을 묵상하며 깨달았습니다.
하나님의 신뢰는 단지 그분의 능력에서 오는 것이 아니었습니다. 나를 끝까지 사랑하신다는 사실, 그리고 한번 하신 약속을 끝까지 지키신다는 사실이 제가 하나님을 신뢰하는 가장 큰 이유였습니다.
신뢰는 능력만으로 생기지 않습니다.
사랑과 신실함이 오랜 시간 쌓일 때 비로소 신뢰가 만들어집니다.
저도 누군가에게 신뢰받는 사람이 되고 싶습니다.
그렇다면 뛰어난 능력만을 구하기보다, 먼저 한 사람을 전심으로 사랑할 수 있는 마음을 구해야 하지 않을까요?
오늘도 하나님께 지혜를 구합니다.
전심으로 사랑하는 사람.
어쩌면 하나님께서 우리에게 먼저 보여 주신 그 사랑을 닮아 갈 때, 비로소 우리도 누군가에게 신뢰받는 사람이 되어 갈 수 있을 것입니다.
The Foundation of Trust
As I meet different people in life, I occasionally come across those who naturally inspire trust. They are not easy to meet. Perhaps that is because many of them have already been entrusted with great responsibilities or have spent years building a reputation for faithfulness.
Today, I found myself asking a simple question:
Who do I trust the most?
My answer is God.
There is no need to explain His power. Yet today’s passage from Deuteronomy made it even clearer why I trust Him.
“But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He swore to your ancestors that He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” — Deuteronomy 7:8
As I reflected on these words, I realized something.
The reason I trust God is not simply because He is all-powerful. It is because He loves me completely and He faithfully keeps every promise He has made.
Trust is not built on ability alone.
It is born where love and faithfulness endure over time.
I, too, want to become someone whom others can trust.
If that is true, then rather than asking only for greater ability, perhaps I should first ask God for the wisdom to love others wholeheartedly.
Today, that is my prayer.
To become a person who loves with all my heart.
Perhaps, as we learn to reflect the wholehearted love that God first showed us, we also become people worthy of another person’s trust.
