파란색 레일 위를 일본 전철이 달리고 있습니다. 세 칸짜리 차량은 터널을 지나 다리를 건너고, 전철 홈을 스쳐 다시 또 다른 터널로 들어갑니다. 아이는 그 모습을 한참 동안 집중해서 바라보고 있습니다.
요즘 우리 아이가 푹 빠진 장난감은 ‘프라레일’입니다. 일본의 아이라면 한 번쯤은 거쳐 간다고 할 만큼 유명한 기차 장난감입니다. 우리 아이 역시 그 매력에 자연스럽게 빠져들었습니다.
수많은 레일을 조합해 자신만의 노선을 만들 수 있다는 점이 이 장난감의 가장 큰 특징입니다. 그래서인지 어른들 중에서도 취미로 모으는 사람들이 있을 정도입니다. 아직은 레일을 이어 하나의 노선을 완성하지는 못하지만, 전철이 레일 위를 달리는 모습만으로도 충분히 신기하고 즐거운 모양입니다.
어느 순간부터 아이는 예전처럼 부모에게만 달라붙어 놀지 않게 되었습니다. 자신에게 기쁨이 되는 대상에 몰입하는 모습은 아주 자연스러운 성장의 과정처럼 보입니다.
언젠가는 이 파란 레일 위에 자신만의 노선을 자유롭게 펼쳐 놓으며, 그 안에서 온전히 기쁨을 누리는 날이 올 것이라 기대해 봅니다.
The Blue Railway of Dreams

These days, my child is completely absorbed in a toy called “Plarail.” It is a famous train toy in Japan—almost every child seems to go through a phase of playing with it. My child is no exception and has naturally fallen in love with it.
What makes this toy special is the ability to create your own railway by connecting countless pieces of track. Because of this, even some adults collect it as a hobby. Although my child cannot yet build a full track system, simply watching the train run along the rails seems to bring endless fascination and joy.
At some point, my child stopped clinging to us as much as before. Instead, there is now a quiet focus on things that bring personal joy. It feels like a very natural part of growing up.
Someday, I look forward to the day when my child can freely build their own railway on those blue tracks and experience a deeper, more complete sense of joy within it.
