“Memory is society’s compass.”
Tradition is not a command to live in the past, but an invitation to remember where we came from. A society that loses memory also loses direction, repeating the same mistakes. Burke described society as a partnership between the dead, the living, and those yet unborn. Remembering history and honoring local stories is one of the most conservative—and future-oriented—acts of restoration.
