저의 경우에는 ‘활기’를 느낍니다. 이 활기는 여러 요인에 의해 발생하지만, 우리가 흔히 말하는 경제적 요인에 의한 활기는 대도시에서 더욱 쉽게 체감됩니다. 다시 말해, 공급과 수요의 본질은 단순한 경제적 흐름이 아니라 인간 사회를 풍요롭게 만드는 인간 본연의 활동에 있습니다.

The “invisible hand” may be the most widely known concept in the thought of Adam Smith. It refers to the idea that markets are formed where supply and demand meet, allowing the economy to move dynamically. On the surface, this movement appears as the flow of cash, stocks, and goods, but beneath it lies something more fundamental about human society.
Let us consider the economic life of a single family. A father earns income through his work. With that income, a mother manages the household and raises the children, while the children engage in their own necessary activities. Even within a family, the presence of supply and demand is entirely natural.
However, if earning and spending were all that existed, a community could not endure for long. If we fail to feel the “vitality” that arises within the interaction of supply and demand, we risk becoming part of a vast, impersonal system—losing our humanity and, ultimately, facing decline.
Then what is the true essence of supply and demand?
Have you ever visited a bustling city—such as Shibuya in Tokyo or Seoul in Korea? What do you feel in such places?
In my case, I feel a sense of vitality. This vitality emerges from many factors, but the kind generated by economic activity is especially tangible in large cities. In other words, the essence of supply and demand is not merely economic flow, but a fundamental human activity that enriches society.
