그 중에서도 쌀겨를 원료로 초를 만드는 브랜드의 팝업 스토어를 방문했습니다.
이 초는 쌀겨에 포함된 왁스 성분만을 정제하여 만든
‘쌀겨 왁스’를 틀에 부어 성형한 제품입니다.
가격이 합리적이며,
왁스가 단단해 연소 시간이 길다는 장점이 있습니다.
불꽃은 움직임이 적고 안정감 있는 빛을 제공합니다.
전기가 어디서나 사용 가능한 시대지만,
때때로 도시의 인공적인 빛에서 벗어나

As rice consumption declines, rice farming is also on the decrease.
While rice has traditionally been a staple food in both Korea and Japan,
changes in dietary habits have led to a steady drop in demand.
As a result, some farms now produce rice wine with surplus rice,
or convert rice paddies into fields for growing other crops.
Amidst these social changes,
there is a brand that has developed a unique technique to make candles using rice bran.
This could be a promising new avenue for rice farmers,
though acquiring such a technique is no simple task.
On the 8th floor of the Shibuya Hikarie building,
you’ll find a collection of shops introducing regional specialties from Japan’s 47 prefectures.
Among them, I visited a pop-up store by a brand that makes candles using rice bran.
These candles are made using only “rice bran wax,”
which is carefully extracted from rice bran and then molded by hand.
They are reasonably priced, with a hard wax that offers a long burn time.
The flame is stable, with minimal flickering—creating a calm and serene atmosphere.
While electricity allows us to light up the night anywhere,
there are times when we want to escape the artificial glare of the city
and offer a gentler, more natural light to ourselves or our loved ones.
We may not be able to recreate the light of nature,
but we can still share the warm glow of human craftsmanship shaped by history and wisdom.
These candles are made by “DAIYO,”
a company based in Shiga Prefecture.
Using only natural, plant-based wax produced in Japan,
each candle is handcrafted with care and precision.
With little to no dripping or smoke,
